A few words about mounting and backing boards…what we do and how we do it.

Dry mounting

Dry mounting is as it sounds, a method of mounting, for example a poster or photograph to usually a foam core or mat board backing using a dry method. This consists of using heat and pressure combined with an adhesive.

We can dry mount on many different substrates although foam core is the most common. We can also mount to thin aluminum material. A We can do over sized mounting of large pieces.

Foam core

Foam core is the most common mounting substrate. It comes in a few different thicknesses is mostly white but their is also a black foam core that we can mount on for a black edge and/or where bleed through of image or type might occur as with newspaper, particularly.

We do have a 100% archival foam core.

We also can mount to thin aluminum.

Museum boards(100% cotton rag)

Museum boards can also be used to mount photos on although, we do not recommend dry mounting anything extremely valuable, original or irreplaceable.
